Dear Diary,

It's hard to believe we've already been here for ten days. We've been so busy I lost track of time.

When we arrived, everyone was so friendly and welcoming.  Elspeth Stewart, the one who founded the Coven, is terrific.  She looks all grandmotherly with her white hair and blue eyes, but she's got this great sense of humor.  And she tells stories that are really funny, but aren't at all the kind of thing you expect your grandmother to know anything about.

She took one look at Buffy and told her she needed to work in the vegetable garden.  We all just kind of looked at each because we know that all Buffy knows about vegetables is they come from the supermarket.  But Giles told Buffy that Elspeth is the most powerful seer he's ever met, so she went along with playing Ms. Greenjeans.  And you know what?  She loves it!

She works in the gardens with Lessa Nightsong.  Isn't that a great name?  It used to be Jane Plunkett but she decided she needed something more mystical being a witch wannabe and all.   She's about Buffy's age and has only been here a little longer than us.

She and Buffy have gotten to be really good friends, but she's still a little shy around Willow.  I think that's because everyone in the Coven knows how powerful Willow is.  Lessa's spells sometimes (ok, most of the time) don't work like they're supposed to.  I've tried to tell her that Willow's spells used to go all klabooey, too.  But, hey, you channel magical primeval energy forces, awake hundred of slayers to help save the world and people get all impressed.

Lessa and Xander are great buddies.  She laughs at all his jokes - even the really stupid ones - and they both like the same kind of books.  Last Saturday morning, Lessa and I got up really early before everyone else so we could watch Bugs Bunny cartoons.  But you know the very best thing about her?  She never treats me like a kid!

The leader of the Coven is Deborah Coleman.  Elspeth had her take over the day-to-day running of everything about two years ago.  I think in a previous life she may have been an Amazon because she's tall, regal-looking and kind of scary.

I don't think I've seen her smile the entire time we've been here, but everyone likes her anyway because she's always fair and tries to do the right thing.  Sometimes she looks at us likes she doesn't quite know what to think.  (It's sort of the same expression Giles had when he first got to Sunnydale.)  But Deborah says we're welcome to stay as long as we like and I don't think she ever says anything she doesn't mean.

And last, but not least, is Joanna Christianson.  Everyone calls her Jo and she runs the New Age store the Coven owns.  You want to know the single most interesting thing about her?  She's got the hots for Giles.  Big time!

I think he's interested, too, because he spends an awful lot of his free time helping out at the store.  He probably likes that she has the same warped sense of humor that he does.  I bet the long brown hair, big brown eyes and the kind of body I hope I have when I'm her age don't totally turn him off either.

And speaking of Jo, I've got to run.  I promised her I'd help out at the shop this evening.

More later.
